Readme file for the Y2Kare utility

    Purpose

Y2Kare is a utility for testing PC hardware for Year-2000
compliance. It is especially useful for system administrators
who have lots of computers to track. It categorizes computers
according to their level of compliance, keeps a database of results
and prints or saves reports for each computer tested. It can be run
from a network server and save all results to a network drive but
can be configured to log off the network and out of Windows before
performing any date altering tests. It then goes back on the network
    again to save the results.

It has loads of options for various configurations and it's
behavior can be customized by a system administrator to make it easy
for his users to operate the program themselves on their own
workstations. It is as easy to operate as a snooze alarm.

    Installation

Installation is as simple as unzipping the files to a working
directory. The administrator of the test should then run the
program to see the documentation and find out how to configure the
program to best run on their systems.

If no files are changed when Y2Kare is first run, it will read
the Y2Kmd.Dat file and run with the /YH option specified there.
These options will cause Y2Kare to open the Special.Doc file that
contains an introduction from the author. When the user exits from
the file viewer it will then open the Y2Kare program documentation
followed by displaying the Y2Kare quick reference screen. The
Y2Kmd.Dat file and the Special.Doc file should be edited to suit
your application or renamed to keep them from being used by the
program. When Y2Kare is run with no command line and no file named
Y2Kmd.Dat it will simply show the quick reference screen.

    License

Users are allowed to run Y2Kare, unregistered, on any machines
they want to determine for themselves that it will work for them the
way they want. They are not allowed to use the results of the tests
for any purpose other than determining the accuracy of the tests on
their machines. Y2Kare must be registered before it is used for any
other purpose like actual testing of computers for fitness of use in
the year 2000. See the file license.txt for more information on the
licensing of the program. See the file regform.txt for pricing and
contact information to register the program.

    Distribution

The file Y2Kare20.zip is freely distributable and freely
available worlwide but must be unaltered from it's original content.

    Platform

Y2Kare runs on any x86 platform using DOS 3.3 or above. It is
also written to be Windows 3.x and Windows9x friendly. It senses
