=============================================================================

Ask any professional educator today, and she or he will tell you that the
most effective way to learn any material is to memorize it. Nerd Gerl's
Drill Bit Machine is a tiny subject-segmented educational program that
assists the learning process through repetitive Q&A. Used as a study or
testing tool, a student or teacher can create an unlimited number of question
files and use them with the Drill Bit Machine to test the knowledge of any
subject.

The Drill Bit Machine contains:

          (1) a highly intuitive interface and input field.

          (2) an instant grading system, progress bar, and
              visual "Grade-O-Meter."

          (3) suggestions for learning improvement.

Students can use Nerd Gerl's Drill Bit Machine to improve grades, prepare for a
test, challenge each other, or simply fill the time.

Teachers can use Nerd Gerl's Drill Bit Machine as a reinforcement tool or as a
final exam.

Do you know someone who thinks he or she knows EVERYTHING? Give 'em a Drill
Bit to prove *ahem* - otherwise!

Operable on ANY IBM compatible computer, Nerd Gerl's Drill Bit Machine works in
DOS, WIN 3.1, WIN 95, WIN NT, WIN 98, WIN 2000, and OS/2 systems.

Run TEST_IT.BAT To See It Work!!!
=============================================================================

Nerd Gerl's Drill Bit Machine is extremely easy to use. To get started, you'll
need a list of questions and answers. (see sample.txt)

First, create a file with Windows Notepad, or, MS-DOS Edit. Save it with
an 8 character file name and 3 character extension (example: mylist.txt).

The very first line of this file MUST be the title of the Drill Bit you are
making. An appropriate title could be:

	My Social Studies Drill Bit

The next line (no double spacing!!) will contain the first question. This line
should not be longer than what you see on the screen. Do not use a word wrap
function if you have one. That way, you can see your space limit when designing
a question.

Example: What are the places to the right of the decimal point called?
(Notice how short and simple this question is?)

The line right under your question should be the answer to the question.

Example: decimal places

Continue in this fashion until you have all the questions and answers you need.
When you write your questions, use no quotation marks. Any other punctuation marks
should be ok.

When you've finished making the question and answer file, start the Drill Bit
Machine by typing

                            DRILLBIT file.txt

at the C:\> command prompt. (Replace "file.txt" with the name of the question
and answer file you saved.)

You should see the first line of your question and answer file displayed on the
Drill Bit Machine as its title. If it is too long, press the ESCape key to end
the Drill Bit Machine and shorten the title in the question and answer file.

Otherwise, you should see the second line of your question and answer file displayed
as the first question. If it is too long, press the ESCape key to end
the Drill Bit Machine and shorten the question in the question and answer file.

When answering a question - be careful to type your response exactly as
the way you want it to appear. You don't need to worry about capitalization
- but spelling and punctuation counts!

Type in your answer and press the ENTER key.

If the answer is wrong, you will see the third line of the question and answer
file displayed as the correct answer. If it is too long, press the ESCape key to end
the Drill Bit Machine and shorten the answer in the question and answer file.

Press the space bar to see the next question.

Continue in this fashion to test your question and answer file, or, to
test your knowledge about a particular subject. Each time you answer a question,
the Drill Bit Machine will show the current numerical score and letter grade
averaged by the number of questions.

When all the questions have been answered, the program will present a
recommendation.

You can repeat the drill as many times as you wish just by re-starting it.

To un-install the Drill Bit Machine, delete the directory it was unzipped
in.
