                             LINES ADJUSTER V1.1

                              by John Augustine

LA (Lines Adjuster) was written in Assembly for Dos systems. It can be
used via Windows at the Dos "prompt", "Start" menu ("Run"), or "Command"
(Windows XP). There is no "installation" required, and very little memory
is needed.

  PLEASE NOTE:

This is not a "free" program. See "CONCLUSION" near the end of this document
for details on making a small "donation" and becoming a "donor". See
"OTH-PGMS.TXT" for programs "donors" can receive FREE.

  "LINES ADJUSTER" USE EXAMPLE:

If you save ("Save As") information (ex. technical, health, etc.) from the
Internet, and you would like to print it (later), the lines may be short,
60 columns long (in my experience), which would be a great waste of paper.
Other programs I tried, that change the lines length, are indiscriminate. They
change every line. This is a problem if the information contains a list.

 Example:

 Current fixed disk drive: 1

 Choose one of the following:

 1. Create DOS partition or Logical DOS Drive
 2. Set active partition
 3. Delete partition or Logical DOS Drive
 4. Display partition information

We certainly wouldn't want to "lengthen" (ex. 78 columns) the above lines.

 The results would be:

 Current fixed disk drive: 1

 Choose one of the following:

 1. Create DOS partition or Logical DOS Drive 2. Set active partition 3.
Delete partition or Logical DOS Drive 4. Display partition information

  "LINES ADJUST" FEATURE:

LA allows you to highlight the parts that you want to change the length of
the lines (with word wrap). The length range is from 20 to 256 columns. In
condense mode, my printer can print 132 columns, so I simply highlight
everything except a list/s, and specify 132 columns. This allows me to print
the information using far less paper.

  GETTING STARTED:

Type (without quotes) "LINE-ADJ FILENAME" and press Enter to set a
default file name.

   or

Type "LINE-ADJ" and press Enter. You can enter the filename later.

  IMPORTANT NOTES:

The original file is never changed. A new file is created.

Although an entire screen line is always highlighted in marking mode when
only a CR (carriage return) exists at the beginning of the screen line, the CR
is the only character, for that "line", to be "marked"

  OPERATION NOTES:

You "mark" parts of the file where you want to change the length of the
lines (with word wrap). When you press the Esc key (exit), you will be asked
for the number of columns (20 - 256).

LA only marks/unmarks lines moving the "marker bar" downward. You can move
the bar up to lines that are not marked above, then move the bar down to mark
(or unmark) them.

For marking (or unmarking) large areas (many lines), press the PgDn or Tab
key to save time.

While you are marking or unmarking lines, if you press the "Home" key (go to
the beginning) or the "End" key (go to the end), marking or unmarking is
automatically switched off. This is a safety feature in case you accidently
press one of those keys.

"Marking" beyond the end of the file (past the last line) is harmless.

  CONCLUSION:

This is NOT a "free" program. A one time donation is expected. You choose
the amount ($5.00 minimum). For your donation, you will become a "donor".
Your name, etc. will be added to the "donors" list. As a "donor" (one time
donation), you can select (ask for) one or more programs to receive FREE such
as "Tree Restore", etc. See (use "HELP") "OTH-PGMS.TXT" for information
about other programs. Please include your e-mail address with your donation,
and the name/s of the other program/s you want (if any). I will tell you in
the email message about the attachment (programs.zip) so you know it is safe
to open. As a "donor", you will be entitled to receive all improved and new
programs (at your request) developed in the future (sent to you by e-mail).
As a "donor", you may request (from time to time) the latest list of programs
from which you can select to receive FREE. If you know another shareware
author with a better offer, please let me know.

The donation will motivate me to develop more programs and make improvements
to existing programs (add new features).

Comments or complaints are always welcomed via email. If you use "snail
mail" and expect a reply, please include a S.A.S.E.

If you are overseas, the local bank charges a $10.00 service fee for checks
outside of U.S. I recommend that you send U.S. cash instead.

Send $5.00 (or more) check, money order, or cash (put in foil for security)
