RECOVERY Version 4.0
==================

Introduction
============
Recovery is a utility program providing a convenient and prompt method for restoring Registry and System files. Something, which is very useful, should your computer fail to function properly due to faults in these files.

The program has options for saving multiple copies (Images) of the Registry and System files. This is useful for saving snapshots of your computer set-up as it may change over time with new programs added and others deleted. Saved snapshots can be copied back to system restoring computer to a previously saved set-up.

To be fully effective Recovery relies upon there being sound and reasonably up-to-date copies of the Registry and System files saved on disk.

Version 4.0 is a major update and is free to private users. Business users please refer to License information.

Installation
============
Unzip Recov.zip into a temporary directory and double click on setup.exe

Operation
=========
Save a System Image
Check which folders if any are to be save, then if you wish to save the image to a folder other than the default enter the new folder path in the textbox and click on Save Image button. The new folder will be created for you and the image copied to it

Restore a System Image
To restore files to system highlight the image you wish to restore and click on the Restore Image button. The program backs up the current system files to Windows\Sysave folder and then copies the saved files to system. Should windows display a registry error message on restarting with a restored image, you will need to do the restoration again this time in Dos Mode, which is almost guaranteed to succeed.

Restoring Image From DOS
Image can be restored from Dos provided Windows is installed in the standard set-up C:\Windows folder. Restart the computer in Dos Mode. When booting from Floppy Drive select option for starting without CD support. Change to the directory where the snapshot was saved, type the command restore and then follow directions given on the screen. For example if you have files saved in the default directory, C:\Image1, at the Dos prompt do as follows:

C:\>			Dos Prompt
C:\>CD C:\Image1	Change dir to Image folder
C:\Image1>		Image folder
C:\Image1>restore	You enter command restore

If you should need help getting into Dos Mode read Windows Help under MS Dos - starting in. The Restore program will back-up existing Registry files and then copy your saved files to the system. If you should wish for any reason to restore the backed-up Registry files, then while in the image directory where your files were saved type the command reset.
