This installation guide describes:

o How to use EZStart to copy the Microsoft Windows NT version 3.1
NDIS spec 3.0 driver from the SuperDisk to your PC.

o How to install the driver.

Note: This driver supports all 8216 (Ultra) and 80xx (PLUS)
Series ISA and Micro Channel Ethernet adapters.

COPYING THE DRIVER FILE

From the EZStart Driver Installation screen, select 'Copy Files'
to copy all the files used by this driver from the SuperDisk to
the Destination Directory recommended by EZStart, or to a different
directory that you specify.

The EZStart default Destination Directory is A:\. Please make
a backup copy of your SuperDisk before EZStart copies files to the
SuperDisk to create an installation diskette.

Note: If you change the Destination Directory, make sure that the
DISK.ID file is in the root directory of the disk that you
are using, and that the OEMSETUP.INF and SMC8000.LAN files
reside in the root directory or a subdirectory on the disk
       you are using.

INSTALLING THE DRIVER

1. Use EZStart to test and configure your Ethernet adapter. Make
sure you write down your Ethernet adapter IRQ, I/O Base, and
   RAM Base settings.

2. Boot your computer from Windows NT.

3. From the Program Manager's "Main" window, double-click on the
   "Control Panel" icon.

4. Double-click on "Network". The Network Settings dialog box
   appears.

5. Select "Add Adapter".

6. Select "<Other> Requires disk from manufacturer".

7. Select "Continue".

8. When prompted, insert the SuperDisk.

9. Type the Destination Directory where EZStart copied the
driver files (for example, A:\WIN_NT). If you are not
sure where the Destination Directory resides, look for
the SMC8000N.SYS file. This file was one of the files
copied by EZStart to the Destination Directory. When you
find the directory where this file resides, you will have
   found the Destination Directory.

10. Select "OK".

11. When the next dialog box appears, select the SMC Ethernet
    adapter followed by "OK".

12. Choose the IRQ level, memory base address, and I/O port
address. Refer to the information you wrote down in step 1.

13. When the next two dialog boxes appear, select "OK" for
    each one.

14. Shutdown and reboot your computer.

In the unlikely event you encounter any device driver errors
after Windows NT boots, check the event log in the
Administrative Tools icon to see whether the error is related
to your network adapter.
