Congratulations. You have received a powerful and unique communications
program that will change the way you work and play in the next 30 days.
RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive is a fully functional shareware, not a
"crippleware." Upon registration, you will receive a registered version
of RainbowFAX Lite, which is functionally identical to this program.

RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive is a personal communications program
based on the innovative SoftFAX(tm) technology. It allows a computer
equipped with a standard modem to send color pictures, electronic mail
messages, and files to another personal computer in a similar manner as
a fax machine does.

RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive makes use of the SoftFAX technology which
encompasses the following features: (1) Transparent Data Compression
allows data to be compressed before transmission and decompressed
after transmission without any human intervention. You can "softfax"
wordprocessing or spreadsheet files at an average rate of 16 pages per
minute with a 2400 bps modem. (2) Windowed and Adaptive Protocol
designed specifically for reliable, error-free telephone communications
outperforms today's most popular file transfer protocols, especially
when transmitting data through noisy long distance phone lines.
(3) Flexible Data Format allows text, binary files, directories,
and colour image files to be softfaxed. (4) Special Softfax Engine
allows a normal modem to send and receive data in a manner even more
powerful than a full-featured fax machine without compromising security.

Whether you are faxing important research documents across the globe
or faxing a friendly colour greeting card across town, you'll find
RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive an invaluable tool.

Note:

RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive is specifically designed for 2400 bps
modems. However, it will work well with 1200 bps and work even
better with any higher speed modems. It is NOT designed to send
to or receive from normal fax machines.

KEY BENEFITS
------------

     * Easy to Use
RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive has a front panel similar to a
fax machine. If you can operate a fax machine, you already
know how to use RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive.

     * Fast and Accurate
RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive can send text messages at the
rate of well over 10 pages per minute using a 2400 bps
modem. All your messages and files are guaranteed to arrive
           100% error-free.

     * Powerful
It has more features than some of the most expensive black-
and-white or colour fax machines. Using the intelligence of
your computer, RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive can accomplish
feats such as distributing colour brochures, transferring
binary or text files, scheduling transmissions, and time
           sharing a single telephone line.

----------------
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
----------------

To use RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive, you need:

MS-DOS based computer (XT, AT, 386 or 486)
         512K bytes of conventional memory
         Floppy drive
Hard disk with 1.5 MB of free space
         Hayes-compatible modem
Hercules, CGA, EGA, or VGA card and monitor
         DOS version 3.0 or later

If you received RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive in floppy disk(s), you
may skip to the next section. The following material is for people
who downloaded RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive from bulletin boards.

If you downloaded RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive from a bulletin board
service, check to make sure that you have the following files
after unpacking the file you downloaded:

README.TXT -- the file you are now reading
DISK1.ZIP -- distribution disk #1 of RainbowFAX Lite
                       Test Drive in compressed form
DISK2.ZIP -- distribution disk #2 of RainbowFAX Lite
                       Test Drive in compressed form

Before you can install RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive on your hard
disk, you need to create the RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive
     distribution disks as follows:

         1. Format two floppy disks in your drive A. Label them
            "disk #1" and "disk #2".

         2. Put "disk #1" into drive A. Go to the directory
containing DISK1.ZIP and enter the following command:
                  PKUNZIP DISK1.ZIP A:
(If you do not have the PKUNZIP program, you can
download it from almost any BBS.)

         3. Put "disk #2" into drive A. Go to the directory
containing DISK2.ZIP and enter the following command:
                  PKUNZIP DISK2.ZIP A:

Now you can use the two floppy disks to install RainbowFAX Lite
Test Drive on your hard disk.

-----------
QUICK START
-----------

In the following instructions, "[ENTER]" means pressing the "Enter"
or "Return" key of your keyboard.

     1. Put distribution disk #1 into floppy drive A.

     2. Change your current drive to drive A as follows:
            A: [ENTER]

     3. Run the installation program as follows:
            INSTALL [ENTER]

     4. Follow the instructions on the screen. If you are not sure of
the answer to any question, simply press the "Enter" or "Return"
key, and the program will choose an answer most suitable for
you. When you are asked for the permission to modify your
        AUTOEXEC.BAT file, please answer yes.

     5. Reboot (turn off and on) your computer after the installation
process is completed. Make sure that you are in DOS after
rebooting. You should see a digital clock on the top right-
hand corner of your screen after rebooting.

     6. Type the following command:
            RFAX [ENTER]
at DOS prompt and you will see the fax machine panel of
RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive within seconds.

     7. If you have used a fax machine before, you can probably
use RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive immediately without reading
the manual. Alternatively, you may read section 3 of the
MANUAL.TXT file to get more familiar with RainbowFAX Lite
Test Drive before actually using it.

Note:

After installing RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive, it will
automatically pickup your calls whenever the phone rings. This
feature allows the program to receive data at any time. If this
is not what you want, you can tell RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive to
pickup phone calls only within a specific time period. The time
period in which RainbowFAX Lite Test Drive is allowed to pickup
phone calls is called the "reception window". You can set the
"Reception ON time" and "Reception OFF time" to any values that
suits you. Refer to section 4.6 of the manual for details.
