1. The purpose of the program
The purpose of the program is to help the struggling entrepreneur get
advanced warning of cash flow problems, and deal with them when they arrive.

Most small companies run into cash flow problems at one time or another.
SurvivalWare is designed to help the struggling entrepreneur get advanced
warning of a cash crisis, and deal with it when it comes. You enter
information about receivables, collections, projected sales, payment
obligations, and extraordinary events that may or may not happen (e.g. a big
sale or a bank loan). SurvivalWare performs a simulation in which sales,
time to collect, and extraordinary events are treated as random variables,
and sampled from probability distributions. The result is a probablistic
forecast of cash inflows. This is compared to a tabulation of specific cash
obligations and shown graphically. The "PP Score" graph tells you week by
week what the probability is that you will be able to meet your obligations.
This tells you whether or not you have a problem over the forecast horizon
(usually 13 weeks). Then the "Cash Excess / Shortfall" graph tells you what
the magnitude of the problem is at various levels of confidence. The
Payments Editor lets you experiment with different payment strategies (e.g.
do payroll on time, but pay everyone else 7 days late), and see the impact on
your Cash Excess / Shortfall position.
