			README.TXT for
			MARK MANAGER

1. Purpose of the program

This Mark Manager program is intended for the manipulation and
storage of marks, and presentation of some simple summary
information. It is designed around a relational database, so is
easily adapted and extended. The Mark Manager is intended for a
stand alone use: either a single teacher, or a group of teachers
sharing a single PC to store and compare marks.

The following concepts were used when developing the Mark Manager:

Marks belong to students, who are members of classes.
There may be one or more classes in a subject
Tests for each class may be common to one or more classes.
"Test" marks may be raw test marks (as gained by sitting for a test)
or may be calculated from other test marks.

The available calculations are :
 Convert to a percentage
 Multiply by a constant
 Calculate a weighted average
Scale to new (specified) mean and standard deviation
Use a common test (across classes) to moderate marks given in separate classes and with differing scales (which would otherwise not be comparable)

NOTE: All images usedin Mark Manager (there aren't many) may be distributed
royalty free.

2. Installation

There are two steps to installing Mark Manager:

Unzip the archive to a temporary directory
Run the 'Setup' program in the temporary directory to install the program

The setup program places files in the directory you choose during installation
(by default the C:\Program Files\Mark Manager directory). Mark Manager
makes use of the Borland Database Engine (BDE) so also installs files in
the C:\Program Files\Borland\Common\BDE directory; if you do not use the
BDE for any other programs, the accompanying UnInstall will remove these
files completely. (If you do, then it is unable to remove them, of course).

3. Status of the program

Mark Manager is Shareware. This version will operate for 90 days from the
date of installation, at which time you will need to register the product
to continue using it. 90 days is (roughly speaking) an entire school term,
 - at least it is in Australia - which is ample time for teachers to establish
whether they find the product useful or not. An order form is included
in the installation package (the file Order.txt)

4. Distribution Status

This trial version may be freely distributed to whomever you wish. The
registered version may not be distributed.
