ZipJacket Version 1.0
May 13, 1999

INTRODUCTION

As the ZipJacket screen header says, I wrote this program as a response
to a need to catalog, organize and simplify the handling of my (now numerous)
100MB Zip disks. It also addresses the need to quickly determine space availability
of each disk by showing the info on the printed label. I try to cram as much data
as possible into them and always had to jaggle & reload disks to find one with enough space !

The program offers a simple interface and limited usefulness and as you might expect
from a 'freeware', a little rough on the edges. Further resource and time needs to be
put in to make it a quality package - but waht the heck, it's free.

I am currently compiling a list of enhancements for the next version. E-mail me at ramurao@mednet.ucla.edu or ramurao@aol.com if you have any suggestions or comments.

This version requires Win98 or WinNT4 or higher (Win32).

INSTALLATION

Run the ZipJacket.exe and specify the target directory where you want to install
the package. Setup.exe manages all the necessary setups your system requires to run it,
including updates to the system registry and program icon setups.

CONFIGURATION

The ZipJacket program recognizes the first time it's invoked and automatically
displays the CONFIGURATION screen. Fill in ALL the required information. Each item
gets printed on the labels so it's important to make sure the information you specify
is accurate.

The 'Company' item is printed on the left side of the label with a gradient background.
The 'Next Disk ID' is the counter that indicates the next-avaliable number to assign to
a printed label. It is automatically incremented when you print one.
The 'Zip Drive' combo box lists all Type=2 drives in your system. That covers all floppy and
all removeable disk drives. Select the drive letter for the Zip drive.

Press SAVE to store the information in your system. Now you're ready to rock and roll ...

LABELS PRINTING

Labels are printed 1-per-page. The next version will address this to save some trees.
Insert a Zip disk to the drive and select/click on 'EXAMINE DISK'. The label preview screen
is displayed showing all the information about the disk's contents.

Press Cancel to get back to the main screen or Print to generate the label. The label is
really a picture of the shown form. Once printed, cut out the label and fold using the
long vertical box (spine) on the right side as a guide.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Lots of thanks to Chris Eastwood, Matt Hart, Brad Martinez, Ramon Guerrero,
Karl E. Peterson, Steve McMahon and numerous others whose works appear all over
the WWW and whose ideas and programming knowledge stimulate a lot of us programmers and
really makes VB more fun and exciting to work with. Thanks again guys...
