ShutOff 2000 requires the Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 Runtime and OLE Automation. To download this component, see below.

Introduction
------------

This program offers a user under Windows 9x, NT or 2000 eight options to:

- Log off normally (normal prompting)
- Log off forcibly (no prompting)
- Shut down normally (normal prompting)
- Shut down forcibly (no prompting)
- Reboot after shutdown (normal prompting)
- Reboot forcibly after shutdown (no prompting)
- Power down after shutdown (normal prompting)
- Power down forcibly after shutdown (no prompting)

Each option is checked with a Yes/No message box, which can be disabled using the "Disable Confirmation" check box.

The main window can be minimise to the system tray, and the Force and Disable settings are saved in the registry.

If the application is already running and the user double-clicks on the icon to start it again, a warning will appear to indicate that ShutOff 2000 is already running.

The user's name and registration key can be entered into the About box. This will enable the Advanced tab.

When a user clicks on the X to close ShutOff 2000, a message box will ask the user whether s/he wants to close ShutOff 2000 or minimise to the system tray.

The computer name and user name are both reflected in the main ShutOff screen.

The help file for ShutOff 2000 and all other documentation is in HTML format.

Known Issues
------------

This program has been tested under:

- Microsoft Windows 9x (all versions);
- Microsoft Windows Me (Beta 3 and higher);
- Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 (SP3 and higher);
- Microsoft Windows 2000 (all versions)

The code is dependent primarily on ADVAPI32.DLL, MSVBVM60.DLL and OLEAUT32.DLL, which are part of the Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 Runtime and OLE Automation, downloadable separately from the E-llusion Interactive website. Visit the Software Download page to find it.

Please note that your present versions of ADVAPI32.DLL and OLEAUT32.DLL should be backed up before installing ShutOff 2000. The DLL files will be copied into the Windows System directory, usually C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM or C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32.

Because of the large variety of motherboards and respective Advanced Power Management, some OEM versions of Microsoft Windows (Dell, Compaq, Mecer, Acer, etc.), as well as some older motherboards, may cause a conflict with this product, specifically with the Power Down and Reboot options. In some scenarios under Windows 9x, the Power Down and Reboot options simply log off the present user. This will not be fixed in the foreseeable future, since we see this as an operating system problem.

Installation
------------

Unzip the files SETUP.EXE, SETUP.LST and SETUP.CAB to a temporary folder and run SETUP.EXE. Follow the on-screen instructions.

If you are upgrading from a previous version of ShutOff 2000, please uninstall it first (using the Control Panel Add/Remove Programs). This is to ensure that you have the latest versions of each file.

Information
-----------

The program is based on the Microsoft Technet code for forcing a log off under Windows NT 4.0. It has been rewritten to suit our environment, and may not work on your system. We will NOT be held responsible for any loss of data that may arise from the use or misuse of this product. Please always remember that a forced log off or shutdown does NOT save any open files.

This program is an own risk application. We do not offer any technical support.
