// I. Introduction //

NoKnocks keeps you online by feigning online activity when you are
away from your computer. Most ISP's "knock you off" when you are away
from a while. It will also keep your connection from "sleeping".

How does this program work?
---------------------------

This program uses the MS-DOS "PING" Command. The Ping command is used
to see how "far you are" from a web site. It also is used by many of
these "stay online" type programs to simulate online activity when you
are away. This "pings" my web page every 1 minute. If you are away from your computer,
and nothing is loading, perhaps a download is timing out or very very slow, this will fool
your ISP into thinking you are doing something. It will also "wake up" your connections, as
some ISPs time you out, forcing you to disconnect from them.

For more info, visit the Ping Page at http://www.ping127001.com/

This program is shareware. The program (with the exception of
your registration code) may be distributed freely. However,
you may NOT hack, hex edit, decompile, disassemble, etc...
this program. NoKnocks 3.01 costs $10 US.

// III. Installation //
///////////////////////

To install, run SETUP.EXE included in this ZIP file. Make sure all
files in the ZIP archive are in the same folder as SETUP.EXE. Winzip,
which I recommend, will automatically extract all files and install
when you double-click SETUP.EXE or the Install button on the toolbar.

To uninstall, go into Control Panel, then Add/Remove Programs and double
click NoKnocks. The uninstaller will be displayed. Press OK to uninstall.
Please note that registry entries will be kept to preserve the preferences
of registered users.

// IV. Using the program / registration //
///////////////////////////////////////////

NONREGISTERED USERS:

Press Exit to quit pinging my web page every 1 minute.

NOTE: Only use this program when connected to the Internet, or many hidden "ping" windows
will clog up your system resources.

You can register via the About box or on the web page. You can enter the registration code
via the About box.

WHEN YOU REGISTER:

You will be able to set the site to ping (faster access, and what if Tripod is down?),
select how many minutes (slow computers), and enable/disable it (so you can keep it running
without clogging up resources).

You will also be able to access the "Emergency Ping" button, which will wake up your connection in an emergency.

ALL USERS:

When you exit, an About box will pop up, with the buttons to exit, view this file, go to the
DQCP webpage, registration (listed above), and an Updater (new feature). The Updater will
launch a web site that will check for updates for NoKnocks, and allow you to download them,
if any. The old version's updater page will be removed after 60 days when a new version
comes out.
