Hello fellow Tandy users,

I recently obtained my second Tandy machine (and my first
portable). Even this dated 286 machine with b/w VGA display, 3 MB
RAM, 20 MB HD, and 2400 speed modem is _quite_ useful for several
portable/mobile tasks.

Is there one section on this forum where old Tandy portables are
discussed? Specifically:
Would I be able to power the machine from the vehicle 12vdc
source??
How does the machine retain its setup configuration when
unplugged (the battery died long before I got the machine)?
It has been a long time since my XT days, why does the memory
report 638 KB and is a 286 capable of using upper memory?
(Running ms dos 6.22.)

 TIA, Bill

There probably was an adapter that made possible operation from a
vehicle battery; dunno where or whether you could find one now.
The computer probably has a small disk battery to retain
configuration memory. A '286 with proper software 'could' use
memory between 640k and 1M _if_ such memory were present; it
isn't always there for a computer intended for having 640k, and
it might not be possible to add it.

Horace,

Are you aware of any area which would have more activity on
Tandy laptops? Fido/Usenet? Judging from the cross references on
the replacement battery there were a number of different laptops
which used, at least, the same battery.

 TIA, Bill

There is a related Forum that deals with Mod 100 and 200 Tandy's,
but not MS-DOS type computers. You might be able to find out who
mada the 2810 for Tandy and get a battery from them, or one for
the computer as distributed by the original manufacturer. My
only laptop is not similar, so it's not a useful reference.

You might try asking on the comp.sys.tandy newsgroup.
