1.0 System requirements and installation
----------------------------------------

Please see install.txt for hardware, software and system requirements for installing TPF Toolkit.

2.0 Migrating from VisualAge TPF to TPF Toolkit
-----------------------------------------------

TPF Toolkit provides a migration tool that enables you to migrate existing user preferences,
container contents, and custom toolbar actions from IBM VisualAge TPF to the IBM TPF Toolkit
for WebSphere Studio. For more information on the migration tool, refer to the Migrating
section in the online help.

3.0 Product limitations
-----------------------

These are the known limitations in the product that may or may not be addressed in future updates.

3.1 No drive-letter path association for remote files accessed via Remote System Explorer framework

User defined custom actions that rely on a drive-letter path to access remote files will no longer
work if the remote files are accessed using RSE. Only remote host systems accessed via NFS and SMB
mounts can be resolved with a drive-letter path. However, TPFTool command line interface provides
a list of services that can be used as an alternative.

3.2 Cache size limit causes problem when operating in disconnected mode

The Remote System Explorer (RSE) framework maintains a cache of remote files that have been
downloaded. RSE allows you to set a maximum size for the cache and it deletes files in the cache
to maintain the specified size limit. When you work in disconnected mode, you are working with
files that exist in the cache. If a size limit is set on the cache, you run the risk losing some
files when cache maintainence is performed.

3.4 No global refresh is made when files are renamed or deleted

If you have the same file showing in multiple filters in TPF Toolkit, and you rename or delete the
file from one filter, it is not updated in the other filters that reference the file. Since file
properties use the filename as the key, updating a file in a filter will update the corresponding
properties for that file in that filter. When filters are not appropriately updated for changes
(such as rename or delete), you risk losing the properties you have set for the file.

4.0 Known problems
------------------
This section lists the known problems in the current version of the product. Fixes for these
problems will be provided in the next interim fix or version update.

4.1 Wizards and actions for z/OS build targets (remote EXEs and DLLs) do not exist

There are no wizards for creating remote executables and remote dlls targetting the z/OS
environment. There are no actions to build these remote targets.

4.2 Double-clicking a file in the browse dialog opens the file in the editor

Generally, in browse dialogs, double-clicking a resource selects the resource. However, in
the TPF Toolkit browse dialog, double-clicking will select the file and exit the browse dialog,
but as a side affect, the file is also opened in the editor.

4.3 Cannot set system level default options for TPF modules

When you define z/OS connections in the Remote System Explorer, you can set default Remote
Compile and Remote Assemble options for these connections. These system level default options
apply to all remote files from these remote hosts. You cannot specify default options for
building TPF modules (DLM, DLL, LLM) using the properties pages for the z/OS system in the
Remote System Explorer. You can only specify default options for TPF build targets at the
preferences level.

4.4 TPF and TPFDF macro definitions

TPF Toolkit provides a default list of TPF and TPFDF macro defintions. These macro defintions
are provided in a data file called tpfhlasm.dat, located in the %TPFSHARE% directory by default.
This data file must only contain TPF and TPFDF macro definitions. If you want to reuse the macro
definitions in the hlasm.dat file that you use with VisualAge TPF, you have to extract the TPF
and TPFDF macros.

5.0 Applying updates
--------------------

You can update TPF Toolkit by applying Interim Fixes. Interim Fixes are installed through the
Update Manager capability included in IBM TPF Toolkit for WebSphere Studio.

1. Click Help > Software Updates > New Updates. This will contact the web sites associated with
the product's features to discover what versions of those features are available. The
potential upgrades are presented in an Available Updates page.
2. Select the feature versions that you wish to upgrade, and click Next.
Tip: Click More Info to view the list of fixes.
3. Carefully review the license agreements for the upgraded features. If the terms of all of
these licenses are acceptable, select the "I accept the terms in the license agreements."
check box. Do not proceed to download the features if the license terms are not acceptable.
4. Feature versions can be digitally signed by the company that provides them. This allows the
user to more easily verify that the features and plug-ins that are about to be downloaded and
installed are coming from a trusted supplier.

Warning: Because of the possibility of harmful or even malicious plug-ins, you should only
download features from parties that you trust.

The digital signature for IBM TPF Toolkit for WebSphere Studio is not yet available, so
Interim Fixes appears as unsigned. Click Install to allow the downloading and installing to proceed.
5. Once all of the features and plug-ins have been downloaded successfully and their files installed
into the product on the local computer, a new configuration that incorporates these features and
plug-ins will be formulated. Click Yes when asked to exit and restart the Workbench for the changes
   to take effect.
6. Read service.html for the list of fixes included in the Interim Fix and instructions on how to
   migrate customizable files.
